Abe Lagrimas, Jr.'s rendition of Hoagy Carmichael's "Stardust" kills me. I've just finished my own version, which is lame by comparison. Ah, well, back to the fretboard.

Interesting article in the SF Gate about Bruddah Iz's most famous recording, on his Facing Future CD. It's a marvelous arrangement of these old chestnuts - Iz changed the chords, the lyrics and the rhythm, all subtly and effectively.
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole played a vintage Martin tenor ukulele, as shown in this photograph. The "Gabby" mentioned at the start of the song is doubtless referring to Gabby Pahinui, the great Hawaiian slack-key and steel guitar master.
